On the official Twitter account for the manga written by Kenji Inoue and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka, Grand Blue, it was announced that the work has exceeded six million cumulative circulating copies in the 16 compilation volumes published to date.
Inoue and Yoshioka began publishing the manga in Good! Afternoon by Kodansha publisher in April 2014. The publisher published the fifteenth compiled volume on May 22 and the sixteenth on November 20 in Japan.
The play inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by Zero-G Studios, directed and scripted by Shinji Takamatsu, released in July 2018. As of yet, there is no indication of a second season.
Synopsis of Grand Blue
Iori Kitahara is just starting his freshman year at university. She moves into her uncle's dive shop, Grand Blue. He anticipates the college life of her dreams, full of beautiful girls and good friends. But things don't exactly go according to plan. He meets a group of students, who immediately force him to participate in his alcoholic activities. Although he was unwilling at first, Iori quickly gives up and becomes the life of the party. Unfortunately, this earns him the scorn of his cousin, Chisa Kotegawa. However, Iori still promises to fulfill his ideal college life, but will things go according to plan this time around?
