Hideaki Anno's live-action film Shin Ultraman reveals trailer

On the official site for Studio Khara's upcoming live-action feature, Shin Ultraman (New Ultraman), a new video and promotional image of the project was posted. Both advertising elements confirm that the premiere is scheduled for the next Summer-2021 season (July-September).

During the opening of the event “Tsuburaya Convention 2019”, the first promotional image of the project had already been revealed, in December 2019. In the image (shown below), the protagonist Ultraman did not wear the “Color Timer (カ ラ ー タ イ マ ー)”.

A draft of the script was completed on February 5, 2019, and director Hideaki Anno is focusing on the project after completing production on Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time (Shin Evangelion Gekijouban: ||). Finally, TOHO will be in charge of distributing this new feature film.

Cast of actors

  • Takui Saitou will play the main character, the man who can transform into Ultraman.
  • Masami Nagasawa will play the main character's partner.
  • Other cast members include Hidetoshi Nishijima, Kouji Yamamoto, Tetsushi Tanaka, Daiki Arioka, Akari Hayami, Ryou Iwamatsu, Toshihiro Wada, Kyusaku Shimada, Toru Matsuoka, Keishi Nagatsuka, and Hajime Yamazaki.

Production team

  • Shinji Higuchi (Shin Godzilla) and his team "Higuchi-Gumi" are in charge of the direction of the Shin Ultraman project.
  • The creator of the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise, Hideaki Anno, is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
