On the official site for the manga written and illustrated by Natsumi Eguchi, Hoozuki no Reitetsu, it was announced that the work has exceeded 14 million cumulative circulating copies in the 30 compilation volumes published.

Eguchi began publishing the manga in Kodansha publisher's Morning magazine in March 2011 and ended it in January 2020. The publisher published the 30th compiled volume on March 23.

The play inspired a 13-episode anime adaptation produced by Wit Studio, directed by Hiro Kaburaki and scripts written by Midori Gotou, released in January 2014. A 26-episode second season was released in October 2017 and produced by Studio Deen.

Hoozuki no Reitetsu Synopsis

In life after death, there is Heaven and Hell. Hell consists of the Eight Major Hells and the Eight Cold Hells, which are divided into 272 subdivisions. Heading the seemingly endless and highly diverse affairs in this gigantic hell is the Fierce God, King Enma's first assistant, Hozuki. Between this cool-headed sadist and his spirited companions, there is disaster in hell every day!
