In this year's 11th issue of Tokuma Shoten publisher's Comic Zenon magazine, it was revealed that writer Homura Kawamoto (Kakegurui) will begin publishing a new manga titled Majo Taisen, with illustrations by artist Makoto Shiozuka, in the next issue of the magazine, October 24.
The magazine anticipated that the story will focus on 32 historical women including Joan of Arc, Cleopatra, Tomoe Gozen and Marie Antoinette. In the manga, these prodigies are "envious witches" who kill each other to achieve their goals.
Kawamoto is perhaps best known for being the writer for the Kakegurui manga, which Tohru Naomura illustrates. Both began publishing the manga in Square Enix's Gangan Joker magazine in March 2014. The publisher published the 13th compiled volume on June 22.
The work has inspired multiple spin-off manga, as well as a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by MAPPA studios, directed by Yuichiro Hayashi and scripts written by Yasuko Kobayashi, released in July 2017. A second season with the same Production team premiered in January 2019 and featured twelve episodes.
Synopsis of Kakegurui
Hyakkaou Private Academy prepares students for their time in the real world. Since many of the students are children of the richest people in the world, the academy has its peculiarities that separate it from all the others. During the day, it is a normal school, educating its students in history, languages, and more. But at night, it becomes a gambling den, educating them in the art of dealing with money and manipulating people. Money is power; Those who excel in games rank at the top of the school. Yumeko Jabami, a seemingly naive and beautiful transfer student, is ready to lay her hand on Hyakkaou's special curriculum. Unlike the rest, she does not play to win, but for the thrill of the bet, and her way of playing to the limit can put too many new cards on the table.
