A survey by the publishing and education company, Benesse, has revealed that primary school children in Japan admire the protagonist of the Kimetsu no Yaiba franchise, Tanjirou Kamado, more than their own parents. The survey asked 7,661 children in grades three through six (5,170 girls and 2,491 boys) enrolled in the company's Shinkenzemi Elementary School course about the things they liked most about the year, including the most admired people.

About 30% of the students chose Kimetsu no Yaiba as their favorite thing of the year 2020, and it stands to reason that Tanjirou Kamado also ranked high, beating mothers with 618 votes. The moms were able to gather enough love to take second place, right ahead of another character in the franchise, Shinobu Kochou.

Parents had even worse luck falling to fifth place in the poll, below the teachers but still surpassed Giyuu Tomioka, another character in the franchise, in fact, all other positions are occupied by characters from this series.

The other favorite things for kids in 2020 according to the survey were video games, anime, and Animal Crossing. Interestingly, the Benesse company's school program also includes courses with themes from the Kimetsu no Yaiba franchise, especially in kanji exercises.

Koyoharu Gotouge began publishing the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February 2016 and ended it in May 2020. The publisher published the twenty-second compilation volume on October 2, and the twenty-second third and final on December 4. The work recently reached 120 million copies in circulation.

Synopsis of Kimetsu no Yaiba

In the Taisho era in Japan, Tanjirou Kamado is a kind and intelligent boy who lives with his family in the mountains.
