Some Japanese users posted photos of the various stores in the anime market, showing that products based on Koyoharu Gotouge's franchise, Kimetsu no Yaiba, are not selling at the expected rate, so the shelves are full of them.
Although at first glance the fans of this series will argue that "they have just been restocked", in reality the shelves have been like this for quite some time, so much so that stores have decided to finish off all these products by offering them at half price.
The reasons that could be causing these poor sales were discussed in a popular Japanese comment forum. Although the volumes of the manga are sold immediately, the companies may have misinterpreted that any product bearing the name "Kimetsu no Yaiba" would be sold in the same way. This possibly caused such a large production of various products that they far exceeded the possibly limited demand.
However, most agree that the release of the film Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen will once again awaken public interest in purchasing these products. However, some argue that if a 50% discount offer isn't enough, then a movie won't be either.
Koyoharu Gotouge began the publication of the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February 2016 and ended it in May 2020. The publisher published the twenty-first compilation volume on July 3 in Japan, with an initial print run of three million copies.
The play inspired a 26-episode anime adaptation released in April 2019, and produced by Ufotable Studios. Additionally, the film Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen is confirmed, which will adapt the "Infinity Train Arc" and which will premiere on October 16.
