On August 14 in Japan, the national government issued a statement informing the population that the limitations of only admitting a maximum of 5,000 spectators in professional sports events will continue during the month of September. These restrictions were originally set to expire at the end of August.

While the total of new positive cases of COVID-19 in Japan has once again exceeded 50,000 and continues to grow, it was determined that it is not feasible to ease the restrictions. The government also announced plans to establish a disease control sub-committee in the future to make new decisions.
Finally, the restrictions on the events were scheduled to be lifted from August 1, but this was postponed due to the increase in new positive cases of COVID-19. This then marks the second time that the easing of these restrictions is postponed.
