Satoru Gojou would not be the most popular character in Jujutsu Kaisen according to the author

Jujutsu Kaisen author Gege Akutami revealed the most popular characters from the literary franchise during a recent interview. The manga series has skyrocketed in popularity since the premiere of its animated adaptation in October 2020, although another reason has also been the enormous variety of personalities and character designs that the work has. There are a few standouts among fans for pretty obvious reasons, like Satoru Gojou and Yuuji Itadori, but it turns out they aren't the most popular characters among fans of the entire franchise (not just counting the anime).

Jujutsu Kaisen recently released its first official fanbook in Japan, and Akutami revealed several notable details about the series and the response from fans. When asked about the most popular male and female characters, the answers were not characters like Megumi Fushiguro or Nobara Kugisaki, but rather that he assured that fans really love Suguru Geto and Kasumi Miwa.

It's no surprise to see that Geto has amassed such a following as not only is the villain the favorite of Bleach and BURN THE WITCH creator Tite Kubo, although Akutami previously revealed that Geto is actually inspired by one of the most memorable villains. from Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump, Yuu Yuu Hakusho's Shinobu Sensui.

Like Sensui in said series, Geto was also a former ally who became disillusioned with humanity and thus fell further into its dark ways, with fans loving those kinds of backstories. As for Miwa, she is not too surprising either, as she is often humble with herself and captures the affections of fans, making her stand out from the other female characters in the play.

The play is inspiring an anime adaptation currently on air and confirmed with a total of 24 episodes, produced by MAPPA studios under the direction of Seong-Hu Park (Garo: Vanishing Line, The God of High School) and scripts written by Hiroshi. Seko (Ajin, Dorohedoro, Inuyashiki).
