Japanese financial marketing website Nikkei xTrend reported that The Idolmaster multimedia franchise accumulated total revenue estimated at 60 billion yen (approximately $ 570 million) at the close of fiscal 2019.
The series first emerged with the release of an arcade game in 2005. Subsequently, the franchise inspired several adaptations to anime, video games, manga, radio programming, live-action adaptations, and spinoff franchises. In the original game released for the Xbox 360 console, the player manages the careers of ten aspiring idols, the famous character known simply as "Producer (Producer-san)."
Bandai Namco Games recently released The Idolmaster Million Live! Smartphone and browser game. in 2013, as a spin-off project from the main The Idolmaster franchise. The game features the characters from 765 Production, as well as 37 original characters. The delivery allows players to manage their own idol production company and improve their individual skills. Sadly, the game's servers were announced to be shutting down in March 2018, but it's also confirmed that it will inspire an anime adaptation soon. The announcement can be read in this note.
