The Netflix platform announced that it will add to its Global catalog the two films of the Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Moon Eternal Project (Pretty Guardians Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie) on June 3. The press release included a promotional video for this launch.
The first film was scheduled to be released in Japan on September 11, 2020, but was delayed until January 8, 2021 due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in production. Subsequently, the second film premiered in Japanese cinemas on February 11, 2021. This film project marked twenty-five years since the last Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon project that was issued in cinemas in Japan.
- Naoko Takeuchi is credited with the original work and supervision of the project, while Chiaki Kon (Back Street Girls: Gokudolls, Golden Time, Higurashi No Naku Koro or) returned to lead the two films at the Toei Animation studios in collaboration with Studio Deen.
- Kazuko Tadano (Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, Choujuu Kishin Dancougar: Hakunetsu No Shuushou, Yu ☆ Gi ☆ Oh!: Sevens) was in charge of the design of characters.
- Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Gochuumon WA Usagi Desu Ka?, Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo No Dorei Majutsu, Jashin-chan Dropkick) was responsible for the writing and supervision of the scripts.
Synopsis of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
Usagi Tsukino is an average, clumsy student who constantly gets low grades in his exams. Unexpectedly, the monotonous life of her puts legs up when she saves a cat with a crescent moon on the forehead of an imminent danger. The cat, called Luna, then reveals that his meeting was not an accident: Usagi is destined to become Sailor Moon, a planetary guardian with power to protect Earth. Given a special brooch that allows it to transform, now she must use her new powers to save the city of the multiple threats that welcome her.
