The second season of Kimetsu no Yaiba has not yet defined its premiere date

The Japanese portal Oricon News announced that this Monday, March 8, in Japan, a press conference was held by the Fuji TV station to give reports regarding the second season of the anime Kimetsu no Yaiba (also known as Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen), however, Tsubasa Saito, director of the project committee, announced that a date for the premiere of this new sequel for the popular franchise has not yet been decided.

The second season was announced on February 14 through a special event for the anime. In the ads, the date "2021" appears among the posters of the new animated project. More details are expected to be released soon.

Production team

  • Haruo Sotozaki (Tales of Zestiria the X, Tales of Symphonia the Animation) will again direct the series at Ufotable Studios (Fate / Zero, Kara no Kyōkai, Katsugeki: Touken Ranbu).
  • Akira Matsushima (Maria-sama ga Miteru, Tales of Zestiria the X) will handle character design in conjunction with Miyuki Sato, Yoko Kajiyama, and Mika Kikuchi, who served as supporting character designers on the first season and the film.
  • Yuki Kajiura (Sword Art Online, Fate / Zero, Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica) and Gō Shiina (Tales of Zestiria the X, Jūni Taisen, God Eater) will be in charge of composing the soundtrack.

Gotouge published the original manga in Shueisha publisher's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February 2016 and ended it in May 2020 with a total of 23 volumes. The anime adaptation of the manga had a total of 26 episodes and was produced by Ufotable studios, under the direction of Haruo Sotozaki and released in April 2019. Subsequently, a film titled Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen, was released in theaters in Japan on October 16, 2020.

Synopsis of Kimetsu no Yaiba

In the Taisho era in Japan, Tanjirou Kamado is a kind and intelligent boy who lives with his family in the mountains. Tanjirou has become the head of his family after the death of his father, making constant trips to the village at the foot of the mountain to sell firewood and charcoal. However, his life changes when one day, when he returns home later. After spending a night out, he discovers that his family has been killed by a demon. Tanjirou and his sister Nezuko are the only survivors now, but she has been turned into a demon, although she surprisingly still displays emotions and seems to have a sense of reason. After an encounter with Giyuu Tomioka, a demon hunter; Tanjirou decides to become a demon hunter to hunt down the murderer of his family and find a way to return Nezuko to normal.
