Violet Evergarden: The Movie delays its Blu-ray / DVD version until October

On the official site for the animated adaptation of light novels written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase, Violet Evergarden, it was announced that the release date of the Blu-ray / DVD version Violet Evergarden: The Movie will be delayed Due to production problems associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. The physical edition was going to be released on August 4, however, now it has been scheduled for October 13 in Japan. On this same date, its premiere is expected on distribution platforms at an international level, if there is the corresponding agreement.

The film premiered in Japanese cinemas on September 18, 2020 and was placed in the second position in weekly collections on its first weekend. This is the first animation film (leaving aside the compilations) that also premieres at Dolby Cinemas, with its opening to the public carried out on November 13 in Japan.

Kyoto Animation had delayed the premiere of this feature film due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic in production. The film was going to be released at Japanese cinemas on April 24, 2020, although this was really its second postponement, as it had originally been announced for January 10, 2020.

  • Taichi Ishidate (Kyoukai No Kanata, Musaigen No Phantom World, Violet Evergarden (TV)) was in charge of the address of the feature film at Kyoto Animation studios, in collaboration with Haruka Fujita.
