The Netflix platform listed that the film adaptation of the light novels of Kana Akatsuki and Akiko Takase, Violet Evergarden, entitled As Violet Evergarden: The Movie, will come to its Global Catalog on October 13. This is the same launch date of the Blu-ray / DVD package in Japan, which previously had already been delayed from its launch originally planned for August.
The film premiered in Japanese cinemas on September 18, 2020 and was placed in the second position in weekly collections on its first weekend. This is the first animation film (leaving aside the compilations) that also premieres at Dolby Cinemas, with its opening to the public carried out on November 13 in Japan.
Kyoto Animation had delayed the premiere of this feature film due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic in production. The film was going to be released at Japanese cinemas on April 24, 2020, although this was really its second postponement, as it had originally been announced for January 10, 2020.
- Taichi Ishidate (Kyoukai No Kanata, Musaigen No Phantom World, Violet Evergarden (TV)) was in charge of the address of the feature film at Kyoto Animation studios, in collaboration with Haruka Fujita.
- Reiko Yoshida (AO No Kanata No Four Rhythm, Girls und Panzer, High School Fleet) was in charge of the cinematographic script.
- Akiko Takase was in charge of the designs of characters.
- Evan Call (Josee to Tora to Sakana-Tachi, Kono I did not hate from Koi Wo Utau Shoujo Yu-no, Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX) was in charge of the composition of the soundtrack.
