In the official Twitter account for the animated adaptation of the light novels written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase, Violet Evergarden, it was announced that the film adaptation, titled Violet Evergarden: The Movie, has dated the launch of its Blu- version Ray / DVD for next August 4 in Japan. On this same date, its premiere is expected on distribution platforms at an international level, if there is the corresponding agreement.
The film premiered in Japanese cinemas on September 18, 2020 and was placed in the second position in weekly collections on its first weekend. This is the first animation film (leaving aside the compilations) that also premieres at Dolby Cinemas, with its opening to the public carried out on November 13 in Japan.
Kyoto Animation had delayed the premiere of this feature film due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic in production. The film was going to be released at Japanese cinemas on April 24, 2020, although this was really its second postponement, as it had originally been announced for January 10, 2020.
- Taichi Ishidate (Kyoukai No Kanata, Musaigen No Phantom World, Violet Evergarden (TV)) was in charge of the address of the feature film at Kyoto Animation studios, in collaboration with Haruka Fujita.
- Reiko Yoshida (AO No Kanata No Four Rhythm, Girls und Panzer, High School Fleet) was in charge of the cinematographic script.
- Akiko Takase was in charge of the designs of characters.
