A Mexican distributor announced that the film adaptation of the Violet Evergarden light novels, titled Violet Evergaden the Movie, will be released in theaters in Mexico and Latin America soon (the distributor itself has made the Mexico / Latin America separation, although officially Mexico is part of Latin America) . The press release did not reveal a premiere date, but it did include the first live promo with Spanish subtitles.
The film opened in Japanese theaters on September 18, 2020, and placed No. 2 in weekly grossing on its opening weekend. This is the first animated film (apart from compilations) to also be released at Dolby Cinemas, with its opening to the public on November 13 in Japan.
Kyoto Animation had delayed the release of this feature film due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on production. The film was due to open in Japanese theaters on April 24, 2020, although this was actually its second postponement, as it had originally been announced for January 10, 2020.
- Taichi Ishidate (Kyoukai no Kanata, Musaigen no Phantom World, Violet Evergarden (TV)) directed the feature film at Kyoto Animation Studios, in collaboration with Haruka Fujita.
- Reiko Yoshida (Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm, Girls und Panzer, High School Fleet) wrote the screenplay.
- Akiko Takase was in charge of the character designs.
- Evan Call (Josee to Tora to Sakana-tachi, Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO, Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX) was in charge of the composition of the soundtrack.
Violet Evergarden Synopsis
There are words Violet heard on the battlefield that she cannot forget. These words were given to her by someone she appreciates more than anyone else. She still does not know its meaning. A certain point in time, on the continent of Telesis. The great war that divided the continent into North and South is over after four years, and the people are welcoming a new generation. Violet Evergarden, a young woman formerly known as "the gun," has left the battlefield to start a new life in the CH Postal Service. There, she is deeply moved by the work of "Auto Memories Dolls", who transmit people's thoughts and turn them into words. Violet begins her journey as an Auto Memories Doll, coming face to face with people's emotions and different forms of love. She all the time searching for the meaning of those words.
