Sometimes fans express their appreciation for an anime franchise in very special ways. And that was the case with professional footballer Joan Román, who once played for renowned clubs such as FC Barcelona or Manchester City. Due to his passion for the Dragon Ball franchise, he officially changed his name to Goku.
Through his official Instagram account, Goku Román published a message, which he later deleted, in which the athlete, who now plays for Miedz Legnica in Poland, explained his decision in more detail:
“Estoy agradecido a Joan por todo lo que he vivido. Lo positivo y las enseñanzas que me ha dejado. Pero ahora soy Goku. He escogido este nombre porque me siento identificado con los valores que representa para mi perseverancia: empatía, crecerse ante los obstáculos, luz y positividad. Solo pido respeto como muchas personas ya me lo están demostrando. Siempre en movimiento, siempre hacia adelante. Mucho amor para todos“.
On the other hand, the most recent project of the franchise is the manga written by Akira Toriyama and illustrated by Toyotarou, Dragon Ball Super, which is published in the magazine V Jump of the Shueisha publishing house in June 2015. The publisher published the thirteenth compilation volume last August 4.
Dragon Ball Super Synopsis
Seven years have passed since the events of Dragon Ball Z, Earth is at peace, and people live freely without dangers lurking in the universe. However, this peace is temporary, since an evil entity comes from the depths of the darkness of the galaxy: Beerus, the god of destruction. Disturbed by a prophecy that told him that he would be defeated by a "Super Saiyan God", Beerus and his angelic assistant Whis will begin to explore the universe in search of this mysterious life form. They do not take long to reach Earth, where they find Goku, one of the strongest warriors on that planet.
