Date A Live Thrills With Trailer For Its Fifth Season

On the official website for the anime adaptation of the light novels written by Koshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako, "Date A Live", the first promotional video for the fifth season of the project was revealed. The video announces that the premiere is scheduled for next April in Japan and that this new season will have a total of twelve episodes, and shows a snippet of the musical themes, including:

  • Miyu Tomita will perform the opening theme titled "Paradoxes," while Sweet Arms will perform the closing theme titled "Hitohira."

The fourth season was scheduled to premiere in the Fall-2021 season (October-December), but was delayed until Spring-2022 (April-June) due to "various production circumstances", while the Crunchyroll platform is in charge of its distribution in the West. Koushi Tachibana and Tsunako published the original light novels through Fujimi Shobo's Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint between March 2011 and March 2020, with a total of twenty-two volumes.

  • Naoto Nakamura (Date A Bullet: Dead or Bullet, Egao no Daika, High School Fleet Movie) is in charge of character design and animation direction.
  • Gou Sakabe (Zero no Tsukaima: Futatsuki no Kishi, Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji, Seiken Tsukai no World Break) is in charge of composing the soundtrack.

Synopsis of Date A Live

Thirty years ago, a strange phenomenon called a Space Earthquake devastated central Eurasia, taking the lives of more than 150 million people. Since then, smaller spacequakes have been manifesting around the world. Shidou Itsuka, a seemingly normal high school student encounters a girl at the epicenter of a space earthquake.

He is informed by his sister Kotori that this girl is one of the spirits that, when they make an appearance in the world, are the cause of these space earthquakes. He also learns that his sister is the captain of the ship Ratatoskr. She recruits him in order to make use of his mysterious ability to seal the powers of spirits. In order to prevent them from becoming a threat to humanity. However, there is a downside. To seal a Spirit's powers, Shidou must make the Spirit fall in love with him.
