Mamoru Hosoda's film Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime reveals new visual

A leak revealed a new promotional image for the upcoming animated film directed by Mamoru Hosoda (Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, Summer Wars, Bakemono no Ko, Mirai no Mirai) and produced by his company, Studio Chizu, Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime (The Dragon and Freckled Princess). This project also has the alternative title of Belle, and it is the one that is used in most of the promotional material.

The film has its premiere scheduled in theaters in Japan for the Summer-2021 season (July-September). Hosoda serves as the director, writer and script supervisor for the feature film, while at the same time crediting the original work. This project is intended to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of Studio Chizu.

The Studio Chizu announcement noted that the film will portray "an ever-evolving online world" that takes place in a world called "U," with five billion registered users. Studio Chizu mentions Mamoru Hosoda's past films where virtual concepts played a key role, such as Digimon Adventure: Bokura no War Game and Summer Wars, as similar titles exploring modern society, but based on the "recent ideas" of the director, and specifically mentions issues of "coming of age, family ties, love between parents and children, friendship that transcends species and the links between our lives."
