The Japanese Portal Yahoo! News Japan reported that nine men were arrested for illegal fishing at the Yomogite Puerto in the Aomori Prefecture on March 8. The group of men had furtively hunted 800 kilograms of sea cucumbers, with an estimated value of 3.2 million yen (around $ 28,900) using a six-meter-length boat (length taken from the bow to the stern).
While the news does not sound like something quite impressive, leaving aside the economic value of the acquired fishing, caught the attention on social networks in Japan that the ship they used are called "Going Merry". One piece fans will quickly have recognized this as the name of the first ship used by the pirates of the straw hat. According to the rapese variety portal, several reactions to the news included: "How fun is to see a ship with that name involved in a case of illegal fishing!", "I know I should not laugh, but I could not contain myself" and "A. One piece difference, these pirates are evil ».
The suspects were men between 29 and 56 years old. The Coast Guard of Japan and the Police Department of Aomori Prefecture captured five of the men in the act and arrested them in the place. The other four men escaped from the place and were arrested between 17 and 23 days later. The arrest marks the first time that the prefecture of Aomori has enacted a penalty by virtue of its hardened fishing laws. The sanction due to illegal fishing ranges from 2 million (around 18 thousand dollars) and 30 million yen (around 270 thousand dollars).
